Red, White Blues…
Long time readers will recognize this patriotic Scotty from a post last summer (http://www.flowerflinging.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html). As he is near my flower wholesaler in West Springfield, I passed him just this week and he now has a pair of red/white/blue mod sunglasses. What a patriotic pooch!
Celebrating with patriotic flowers is all about the proportions and the mix. These navy blue ‘fireworks’ are dried allium heads from my garden, sprayed blue. These made another appearance in Philadelphia in hot pink (see “Supercalifragilisticexpealidocoius!”, Archives, March).
If the sun would come out, I wouldn’t need incandescent light for this design on the dining table. These milky white containers, a lovely gift from Mrs. Flower Show, came from the uber-cool shop of Bruno Duarte in Toronto. These are white roses (not yellow) and red painted midolino sticks linking the two designs on the navy runner. Since I am building an ark, this is as patriotic as I could get in this Monsoon Memorial Day weekend. As one correspondent wrote, “Red, White and Brrrrrrrr! “ Hope yours is warm and sunny.
