New York Valentines

tiny hearts

New York loves Valentine’s Day.  Who doesn’t like a bright kick of red or pink to chase away the Winter blues?

Blog heart Ranunculus on the shelfThe New York flower market was deceptively calm yesterday and bursting with gorgeous flowers to make any Valentine’s heart beat faster.

big eyed anemonesThese arresting anemones would please a quirky friend who has an offbeat look at life.  All those velvety dark eyes just daring you to do…………… what?

Luscious rosesFlowers don’t even have to be red or pink.  Who wouldn’t love these old fashioned, voluptuous cantaloupe colored roses from David Austin?

spanish influence on MadisonNot all flowers are fresh.  At Ralph Lauren on 72nd, Spanish grandees were surrounded by a sea of, presumably, silk long stem roses.

red feathersOr feathers.  These on Third Avenue were in a thrift shop.  I just couldn’t bring myself to buy used feathers…..OY!  But someone else could and did.  By the end of the day, they were gone.  Darn?  Or maybe not…

dress by OscarOscar (as in de la Renta) has a cute dress harking back to 1957, no matadors for him.

Asprey's valentine giftsSo you are all dressed up, waiting for whom?  “Alistair was no fool.  He popped over to Asprey’s before popping the question.”  So quintessentially British, what?

GemsLet’s hope he brings one of these…

yummy cupcakesOr at least some of these cupcakes from Eli’s…

author Elizabeth Bard

But if he doesn’t show up — of course we can always lose ourselves in a delightful, romantic foodie comedy…..  This one comes with recipes.  It is nicknamed “Eat, Stay, Love” on the blurb…..

Cheers!
