Movie Night

Go the the MoviesLet’s go to the movies!  I am a huge movie fan of certain kinds of movies but I don’t do Sci-Fi, Action Adventure, scary, well you get the idea.

Romantic ComediesI do love romantic comedies – think Nancy Meyer’s “The Holiday” or even better Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant in “Holiday” & “Philadelphia Story”.  Classic films from Merchant-Ivory like “Remains of the Day”, John Huston’s “Gosford Park”.

"My Life So Far"Do rent from Netflix a little known gem, based on a true story and set in 1927 Scotland, called “My Life So Far” with Rosemary Harris, Colin Firth and an adorable freckle-faced hero who is ten years old.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada

Best flowers in a movie – “The Devil Wears Prada”.  Check out the scene where a make-up-less Meryl Streep tells Anne Hathaway she is getting a divorce.  Behind Anne is a brilliant yellow flower arrangement with stunning dark sunflowers minus their petals.   There are 5 other arrangements in the room including a low glass container of white callas lined with a calathea leaf.

Four Weddings and a FuneralMost flowers in a movie – “Four Weddings and a Funeral”.  This was the big start to the career of Simon Lycett, who went on to do the real weddings of Prince Charles and Camilla and more recently, Prince William.  Check out his atelier in this video:

Tetsunori kawanaThanks to The Maitre here’s a link to a brief movie on YouTube on Sogetsu Ikebana MasterTetsunori creating a stupendous bamboo installation at the Victoria Museum of Art in Australia.  Don’t be put off by the too-long introduction.

Iemoto TeshigaharaThis stage presentation in Sydney Australia is by another Ikebana master, mistress?, Iemoto Akane Teshigahara.  This video opens with a dramatic splitting of bamboo.  Don’t try that at home!

Life of FlowersLast and by no means least, is this wondrous video “The Life of the Flowers”, gratefully received from a most supportive follower.  Each flower was filmed over two days to create these enchanting images.  Lots of links in this post; if you have time for only one, this is the one!

See you at the movies! Cheers!
