 Berkshire School Mountain“Fall is Fell” – it sounds like a Yogi Berra-ism. Somehow it was a catch-phrase around our home every autumn. From the change of the light just before Labor Day to the dark days before Christmas, this is my favorite season.

Berkshire School Fall foliageThis particular autumn has been incredibly beautiful and very long lasting.  Here is a valentine to fall in New England for those who have been enjoying it and for those afar.

 Burning bush hedge Lakeside Maple“Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.” Faith Baldwin

 Railroad Street TreesBerkshire School Litchfield North StreetThe morns are meeker than they were,

The nuts are getting brown;

The berry’s cheek is plumper,

The rose is out of town.”   Emily Dickinson

 Connecticut Pond looking North Bull hill Road“There is a beautiful spirit breathing now

Its mellow richness on the clustered trees,

And,  from a beaker full of riches dyes,

Pouring new glory on the autumn woods,

And dipping in warm light on the pillowed clouds.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
