California shoreline from train

Traveling fast on Amtrack from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles, the train hugs the magnificent shoreline much of the way, winding in and out of many towns, small and large.  It’s a great ride.

Sofitel sculpture

At the Sofitel Beverly Hills, this striking sculpture in the lobby welcomes guests.

Sofitel front desk roses

Behind the front desk, these roses stand like sentinels before a monochrome drawing of Los Angeles.

Sofitel succulents

The elevator lobby of each floor has a group of glass containers with various succulents.

Succulents in glassOur floor had these three.  What a delightful group of color and texture with the strands of curly willow looping in the vases.

Diane Keaton's lime treesIf you are like me and have some free time, you go gawp at the stars!  Diane Keaton’s house and lime trees.  Pretty nice.

Pretty Woman balconyThis made me laugh.  “Pretty Woman” – the last shot – the balcony.  Richard Gere is actually afraid of  heights as is his character in the movie so they found the lowest one they could.

Paramount Gates

Paramount Studios – most of the movies I love came from this lot.  We toured around in a group of 6.  None of us have seen the TV programs filmed here, but we all knew all the old movies.

Paramount commissary cauliflowerf

How’s this for a veggie??? This was served at a private Paramount dinner.  Green beans with purple and green cauliflower!!

The Getty MuseumAnother day, another vista.  This is at The Getty Museum.  I am probably among the last of you to visit here.  I was blown away by the architecture and the collections.

Getty azalea mazeAbstract dramatic gardening here….a maze of azaleas….you can just see a couple of independent blooms in the center.  It looks like it is floating.

Bougainvillea trees

Bougainvillea is trained up these forms to form shady trees under which to sit and look at the maze.

Cheers from the Detroit airport!
